Custom company properties are a great way to track information for your companies and segment your portfolio by common characteristics. The flexibility of properties enables you to view a change log of how these values have changed over time and dynamically update dashboards -- saving you time and effort when putting together quarterly LP reports or internal portfolio reviews.
Using properties in a Request is a great way to collect qualitative information such as fundraising updates, company performance updates, and onboarding information. Continue reading below to learn how you can use properties in Requests.
How to use properties in a Request
First, make sure you have created the company property in your account by following the directions in this article. Then, get started building your Request.
Once in the Request, navigate to the content section and click +Add a new block to add additional content. In the drop-down menu, scroll to the company properties section. Here you'll see a list of the different custom properties you've created in your account. Click the property you'd like to add to the Request.
Note: Requests support the ability to request properties formatted as single-line text, rich text, single select, multiple select, and date.
Once you've chosen the property, you'll see a new content block in the body of the Request. On the left side of the block, you'll see the format of the block.
On the right side of the block, you'll see a blue symbol with the property's name and an indication that this field is linked to the property you've created in your account.
Once you've added the respective properties to the Request, you'll follow the normal workflow of setting the Request live. When a company submits a response to a field that is a company property, the value will be updated in the company's properties section (as well as anywhere else the property is used, such as a portfolio company dashboard).
