How to set up Visible MCP server for ChatGPT

This article walks through how to set up Visible's MCP server using ChatGPT.

OpenAI supports custom connecters on Business, Enterprise & personal paid accounts (Pro & Higher Tiered Plans). Users will need to have Owner or Admin access in ChatGPT to create the connectors that power the MCP server.

For step-by-step directions, continue reading below.


Step One: Navigate to Settings and click MCP server from the inner navigation menu.



Step Two: Copy the MCP Server URL from the MCP Server tab in Visible.



Step Three: Navigate to ChatGPT and click your profile name at the bottom left. Then choose Settings.



Step Four: Click Apps & Connectors. Then, scroll to the bottom of the window and click Advanced settings.


Step Five: Toggle on Developer Mode.


Step Six: Click Create.


Step Seven: Provide a Name for the Visible connector. Then, Paste the URL from Visible into the MCP Server URL text box. Select OAuth authentication and check the box to trust the application. Then, click Create at the bottom of the Connector interface.



Step Eight: Log into Visible & Authenticate your account.

Step Nine: Select the account you want to access and then click Authorize.



Step Ten: You'll see a message that Visible is now connected.



Step Eleven: Click the + button in the prompt screen. Choose More from the drop down and then click Visible. Now you can utilize ChatGPT to query your Visible data



The following tools are called through the MCP server:

A couple things to note when using the Visible MCP server:

  • Regarding funds, the fund tools utilize aggregated data. Round and transaction level data is not currently supported.

  • Only users with Admin and Editor permissions are able to use the MCP server. Users with View-only permissions do not have access.

  • When limited permissions are enabled, users that have limited company access do not have access to the MCP server.
