How Investors can use the MCP Server to Manage Contacts

This article walks through how investors can use Visible's MCP server to read, create, and update contacts in their Visible account.

Written by Nick Kramer

The Visible MCP server allows you to connect your AI tool of choice to your Visible account. This workflow is designed to:

  • Read existing contacts in your account

  • Create new contacts, including custom contact properties

  • Update details on existing contacts

Step One: Connect your Visible account to your AI tool of choice.

The Visible MCP server is available for AI solutions that allow for MCP connectors and apps; you will need to have admin or editor permissions on your Visible workspace to connect to the MCP server.

This article will walk through using the Visible MCP server with Claude, but below are the resources that walk through the steps to connect Visible to your AI solution of choice:

Step Two: Read your existing contacts.

You can ask your AI tool to surface contacts already in your Visible account. The MCP connection has access to your custom contact properties, so you can filter or sort by any field you track, whether that's founders in your portfolio, co-investors, LPs, or service providers.

Example prompts:

  • "Show me my contacts at Acme Inc."

  • "List all contacts tagged as LPs in our current fund."

  • "Pull up all the founders I've added in the past quarter."

Step Three: Create new contacts.

Ask your AI tool to add new contacts to your account. You can populate standard fields like name, email, and title, as well as any custom contact properties you use to track your network.

Example prompts:

  • "Using Visible, create a new contact for Jane Goodall. Her email is jane@acme.com and her title is CEO. Use the contact property company name to add Acme as her company."

  • "Add Mark Smith as a contact. Add a note that he's a co-investor I met at the LP summit."

  • "Create a contact for Priya Patel, founder of Beta Corp, and tag her as a portfolio founder."

Step Four: Update existing contacts.

Ask your AI tool to update fields on an existing contact, including custom properties. This is useful for keeping records current after a meeting or when a founder's role changes.

Example prompts:

  • "Update the title on my contact Jane Doe to CEO and Co-Founder."

  • "Set the last meeting date on Mark Smith to today."

  • "Update the company name on my contact Priya Patel to her new venture."

Step Five: Navigate to Visible to see the updated contact records.

Go back to Visible to review the contact records created or updated through the MCP connection. From there, your team can reference them alongside your portfolio data, deal pipeline, and notes.
