Pre-Meeting Brief Pack (Claude Skill)

Reviews your calendar for the week's portfolio company meetings and DMs you a pre-call brief for each one, latest metrics vs. forecast, investment position, recent updates, and open asks, pulled live from Visible and Google Calendar & sent to Slack.

Written by Nick Kramer

Before a portfolio company call, someone has to go pull the latest numbers, check them against forecast, remind themselves of the investment terms, and figure out if anything's still outstanding from the founder. This skill does that pull for every portfolio meeting on your calendar this week and DMs you a brief before each one, so you're not doing that scramble five minutes before the call.

Setup

1. Download this Skill file: pre-meeting-brief-pack.skill

2. Upload it in Claude under Settings > Capabilities > Skills.

3. On first run, Claude checks whether you already have a calendar connected, Google Calendar or Microsoft 365. If you have one, it uses that automatically. If you have both, it asks which one holds your portfolio meetings. If you have neither, it'll prompt you to connect one before continuing. Either way, it only asks once, future runs remember your answer.

4. Also on first run, Claude looks for how your workspace tracks forecast or budget values, investment amount, ownership percentage, and FMV, and asks you to confirm if it can't find a confident match. That's remembered too.

Running it

Tell Claude something like:

  • "Run the brief pack"

  • "Prep me for this week's meetings"

  • Type the / command and find the skill

By default it covers today through the end of this week, so you only get briefed on meetings that haven't happened yet. Ask for something else, "brief me for the whole week" or "next week," and it'll use that instead.

What it actually does

The instructions below are packaged into the skill file. You don't need them to use it, but here's what's happening under the hood.

Finding the meetings. Claude checks your calendars, not just your primary one, for anything in the window with external attendees, skipping declined events and all-day blocks. This works the same way whether your calendar is Google or Microsoft 365, the skill pulls from whichever you've connected. If the same meeting shows up more than once, it only counts once.

Matching to a company. Each meeting gets matched to a portfolio company, first by attendee email domain, then by title or company name if that doesn't turn up anything. A weak match, a first name alone, isn't enough, Claude leaves those out rather than guessing. If a single meeting looks like it could involve more than one portfolio company, a syndicate call, say, Claude asks you once which one it should be briefed for, or briefs both if that's what you want.

Pulling the numbers. For each matched company, Claude pulls the 3 to 5 most relevant metrics, usually things like ARR, Runway, Cash Balance, and Burn, and compares each to forecast where your workspace tracks one. If a metric doesn't have a forecast counterpart, the brief says so instead of leaving it blank or making one up.

Pulling your position. Investment amount, ownership percentage, and most recent FMV, with the as-of date on the FMV since it's often a bit behind the metrics. Anything genuinely not tracked for that company is called out as such, not left silent.

Pulling context. The 2 to 3 most recent notes on the company, and anything open or overdue from prior asks.

Handling reruns. If you run this again over a window that overlaps a prior run, meetings already briefed get skipped rather than DM'd a second time.

What lands in Slack

One DM per meeting, sent as soon as that meeting's brief is ready rather than batched at the end:

Claude tells you how many meetings it found in the window, how many got briefed, how many were skipped as already-briefed, and which ones it left out for lack of a confident match or handed back to you as a multi-company call.

Worth knowing

  • Works with Google Calendar or Microsoft 365 (which covers Outlook calendar). You don't need to have picked one in advance, Claude figures out what's connected and adapts.

  • Reading from Visible and your calendar is read-only. Sending the DMs is the one action that does anything, and it's the whole point of the skill, so Claude sends them without asking permission per run. The end-of-run summary is there so you can catch a bad match or a gap quickly.

  • This runs when you ask for it. It won't fire on its own each week, if you want a standing cadence, you'll need to trigger it yourself or set up a recurring reminder.

  • Claude won't fill in a forecast, investment figure, or FMV that isn't actually tracked. If something's missing, the brief says so plainly instead of approximating it.
