Portfolio company dashboards are a powerful tool for visualizing portfolio company data. They can easily be templatized and applied across your portfolio companies, making them especially useful for internal portfolio reviews.
To get started using portfolio company dashboards, navigate to the sections below:
Creating a Portfolio Company Dashboard
Step One: Go to the portfolio company's profile, click Dashboards and then select +New dashboard
Navigate to the respective portfolio company's profile, click Dashboards on the inner left side pane. Once in this view, click a dashboard name to edit an already created dashboard, or click +New dashboard to create a new one.
Step Two: Create a Flexible Dashboard
After clicking +New dashboard, you'll be given the option to create a flexible dashboard or create a one pager. Choose flexible dashboard and give your dashboard a name. Click create when done.
Step Three: Click Add new to add content to the dashboard
Start adding content to your dashboard with the following options: charts, tables, properties, text, variance reports, headings or investments.
Step Four: Continue adding content to your Dashboard
You can continue to build the dashboard by clicking +New in the top right of your screen. Using the drop-down menu, you are able to add additional charts, tables, properties, text, variance reports, headings a investments.
Saving a Dashboard as a template
Step One: Save the Dashboard as a Template
Once you've finished adding content to your dashboard, you can save it as a template and apply it to the rest of your portfolio companies. To save this dashboard as a template, click Save as template in the top right corner.
Step Two: Name the Template
Give the template a name that can be added to multiple companies in your portfolio.
Step Three: Click +Add Companies
Click the +Add companies button to choose the companies from your portfolio that you want to copy this template for.
Step Four: Choose the companies you want to add
Click the + next to a company's name to add it to the template, or click add companies to add all of your portfolio companies. Click apply followed by save to finish adding the companies to the template.
Step Five: Use the template across your portfolio
The template is now available to be used across your portfolio. Click through the companies on the navigation tab to see the dashboard with each company's performance.
Editing a Dashboard
Step One: To edit the layout of the dashboard, select the three dots and click Edit layout.
Click the three dots, followed by Edit layout. Drag and drop content to reflect how you want the dashboard to be designed.
Step Two: Apply changes
If you are choosing to apply changes to the template, you'll pick whether you want to apply them to all of the existing company dashboards or only apply the change to the current company dashboard and any new companies added to the template. Then click Apply.
FAQs
What if I include a metric in a dashboard template that is only assigned to certain portfolio companies?
The chart will not display the respective portfolio metric. You can simply edit/delete the chart from the respective portfolio company.
