Templates let you build one dashboard layout and apply it across multiple portfolio companies, so you can update reporting for many companies at once instead of building each dashboard from scratch.
To get started using portfolio company dashboards, navigate to the sections below:
Creating a Portfolio Company Dashboard
Step One: Start a new template.
Navigate to the Dashboards tab & click + New Dashboard in the top right side of your screen. Choose Company dashboard template, provide a name and click Create.
Step Two: Add the companies it applies to.
Click + Add companies and click the + symbol next to every company you want this template to cover. You can select as many companies as you like in one pass. Once at least one company is selected, the canvas unlocks so you can start adding content. Then, click Apply.
Step Three: Build the template content.
Click +Add content and start adding content to your dashboard with the following options: charts, tables, properties, text, variance reports, headings or investments.
Step Four: Preview before you apply.
Use the Viewing as option to preview how the template will look for any of the companies you assigned, with that company's real metric and property values filled in. This lets you check the layout before it goes live on anyone's dashboard.
Saving a Dashboard as a template
Step Five: Apply the template to company dashboards.
Click Apply template to publish your changes to every assigned company's dashboard. To finalize this, Click Create dashboards.
New dashboards stay in a setup state until you apply the template for the first time, and you may see a "Rebuilding charts" message while updates finish running in the background.
Step Six: Manage companies and edit with care.
Use Manage companies to add or remove companies from the template at any time. Removing a company permanently deletes that company's dashboard and any content specific to it, so Visible will ask you to confirm before removing.
Keep in mind that reapplying a template overwrites all the widgets on every linked dashboard, including anything a teammate customized for one company, so it is worth saving a copy of any one off text before you save changes.
Please note that tear sheet templates work the same way as described above. The only difference is that they have a fixed page layout that is designed to be printed on a single page.
FAQs
What if I include a metric in a dashboard template that is only assigned to certain portfolio companies?
The chart will display the respective portfolio metric. You can make per-company customizations and delete the chart from the respective portfolio company.
Inside of a table, only metrics that are assigned to a portfolio company will be visible in the table. So if you prefer to not have per-company customizations to make template changes in bulk, this is the best solution.
