This article outlines how to set-up your account to convert between a portfolio company's local reporting currency and your fund's operating currency. This is helpful so you can keep an accurate record of your portfolio's local reporting data, while also being able to compare, visualize, and share data in your fund's operating currency.

1) Set up your default fund operating currency

To do this first, navigate to the settings cog at the bottom left of your account. Then, select Fund settings at the bottom of the pane and change the currency to match your fund's operating currency.

2) Update the default currency for relevant portfolio companies

Navigate to the Portfolio section of your account (top left) and select the company you want to change the reporting currency for. Then, select the three dots at the top right of the inner pane and select Edit company.

From here, navigate to Default currency and select the default currency from the drop-down list.

3) Apply currency conversions throughout the platform

You have the option to convert metrics in the following places:

  • Tables & charts within Dashboards

  • Tables & charts within Updates

To edit a table or chart, select the three dots at the top right and then select Edit.

Select the small arrow to the left of the metric title to expand the panel.

Toggle on Convert to $.

For ease of use, we have designed the interface to look the same when converting a chart or table within the Updates section. Simply navigate to updates on the left-side pane and choose the chart you would like to update.

We will automatically convert metrics to your fund's operating currency for:

  • Requests -- companies will be asked for metrics in their local reporting currency

  • Tear sheets and one-pagers

  • Reports

Note: Visible uses the exchange rates from the last day of the reporting period. For quarterly metrics, the exchange rate from the last day of the quarter is used. For monthly metrics, the exchange rate from the last day of the month is used.
